TARBORO — The Edgecombe County Arts Council met at the County Administration Building Saturday for a strategic planning board retreat, with about 17 people in attendance.

“I was very thankful for the work that was accomplished during the retreat,” said Edgecombe Arts Executive Director Joyce Turner. “A lot of great ideas were exchanged and goals were set.”

The Daily Southerner requested and was initially granted permission to attend a portion of the session by Turner, who was overruled by Leigh Ann Wilder, Arts in Communities Director with the North Carolina Arts Council. Wilder served as facilitator for the event.

According to Turner, the retreat provided a “brainstorming session” for members of the council’s various committees.

“We want to be compliant with what other Arts Councils do in the state and look for ways to grow our membership,” Turner said.

Barbara Campbell Davis, president of the Council’s Board of Directors, said she was pleased with the participation at the retreat and the planning that was accomplished for the upcoming year.
